You have a great idea.
You have an innovation process and strategy ready to go to make that idea a reality.
You’ve even got the sponsorship from leadership and the resources you need.
But your team is still not on board.
Innovation doesn’t happen in isolation. It requires collaboration and coordination in order to succeed.
Your team may be resisting innovation for several reasons:
1) The development of something new can be seen as criticism to the current situation.
2) There’s a desire for stability and adherence to the status quo. Teams generally prefer certainty and clarity over the unknown.
3) The innovation and the tasks associated with it are highly complex. Not just from a technical point of view, but also from stakeholder and relationship management, with many competing priorities.
But hold on! Resistance is not futile. With innovation storytelling and communications, leaders can make innovation irresistible.

What a great thought provoking post! I would add an observation: what about leaders and a system that says its hungry for innovation, but won’t provide a team with the authority or budget (and it doesn’t have to be big) to pursue innovation, no matter how big or small it may be?
