My hot take? Story makes the world go round.
If we want anything to get done, we need a good story. Story powers our strategies, our stewardship and our outcomes.
Story is momentum.
Let's break this down.
Story as Strategy:
Your strategy is your plan for navigating something that has yet to happen. We use story to help us position ourselves in the face of the unknown, helping us understand the "why" behind this strategy and how it's relevant to our unique needs.
Story as Stewardship:
Similar to implementation and execution, but more responsive (check out Tom Critchlow βs writing on this here ), stewardship uses story as the reenforcing muscle to turn mundane action into meaningful creation.
Story for Outcomes:
When we have results -- be they the desired ones or something unexpected -- story allows us to understand and make meaning of what's happened. Story can contextualize those outcomes for each individual, helping them figure out their next move in the emergent unknown.
So, what do you think? Does story make the world go round? If not, what transforms a strategy into outcomes?
